114 PALFINGER cranes to be delivered to Seagreen offshore wind farm The 1075MW Seagreen project, which is currently under construction and will be Scotland's largest offshore wind farm when complete, will soon be supported by a total of 114 PALFINGER transition piece cranes. PALFINGER landed this major deal together with long-term partner Outreach Offshore. Salzburg, Austria on 13th January 2021 Situated over 27 km from Scotland's Angus coastline at its closest point, Seagreen will comprise 114 MHI Vestas V164-10 MW wind turbines and will be capable of powering up to 1.3 million homes each year with low-carbon, renewable energy. For smooth equipment handling on the wind platforms, PALFINGER was selected as one of the main suppliers for the Seagreen offshore wind farm. A total of 114 PALFINGER PF20000-7 LDB fixed boom cranes will be supplied, one for each wind platform. The cranes fulfill two key requirements which are to be both highly reliable and low maintenance. They have a lifting capacity of 990 kilograms and a minimum hoisting height of 35 meters. Their lay down boom design enables easy lowering of the boom from the operational position into the maintenance position. Seagreen offshore wind farm is being developed by joint venture partners SSE Renewables and Total. SSE Renewables is leading on the development and construction of the project, supported by Total, and will operate the asset on completion, which is expected in 2022/23. "Our outstanding cooperation with the Seagreen project team led to this huge achievement for our installed base in UK waters and the North Sea," says Rupert Reischl, PALFINGER's Global Sales Manager Wind Cranes. "Our special thanks go to Outreach Offshore, who provide quick and impeccable local service to our clients in this area. In the end, it was our firm and long-standing partnership that won the Seagreen bid," he concludes. Reliable partner during bidding phase and beyond Local and long-term PALFINGER dealer Outreach Offshore, who employs 25 people and is based in Falkirk, will give waterfront support to the project. Seagreen provides an opportunity for Outreach Offshore to support a major Scottish offshore wind farm, using locally based, skilled and experienced personnel. Their aim is to support the project throughout the construction process, plus provide reliable equipment service, training and spare parts when the equipment comes into full operation, while ensuring compliance with UK LOLER and PUWER regulations. As the project grows, Outreach Offshore is committed to matching these requirements as they emerge by increasing their personnel levels, again using handpicked local skill sets to enhance their dedicated team of experts. SSE Renewables Project Director for Seagreen, John Hill, says: "We are pleased to welcome an industry leader like PALFINGER to this project. It is great to see the company working with a partner based in Scotland. This is yet another example of the project and our contractors supporting the local supply-chain wherever possible and helping the country's green recovery." Supporting the UK's ambition towards a greener future Seagreen is another environmentally driven project that PALFINGER proudly supports with lifting and handling solutions. This wind farm is expected to generate electrical power for one million households, which corresponds to over 40 percent of Scotland's energy requirement. With that, project partners SSE Renewables and Total are significantly driving forward the UK's ambition to deliver 40GW of offshore wind power by 2030.
